Hi there – I think the reason this is happening is because of the AMP plugin you’re using.

AMP only supports certain JavaScript code, and this theme uses JavaScript that is not supported.

For what it’s worth, Google are no longer using AMP as a ranking factor and will rank non-AMP sites equally with AMP ones so there’s not much need/ benefit to using AMP on your site.

    Thanks – Ben

Hello Ben, thank you for your Opti theme.

    1.

You are right. The AMP plugin was the reason the search box was not working.

Also, it comforts to know that “Google are no longer using AMP as a ranking factor” which was the only reason to activate the AMP plugin in the first way.

I deactivated the plugin and the search began to work.

    2.

Though, I am wondering if there are users who would have their JavaScript disabled and thus will not be able to use the search functionality in this case.

Kindly share your thoughts regarding this.

    3.

    Thank you

Glad disabling the AMP functionality solved the issue!

Though, I am wondering if there are users who would have their JavaScript disabled and thus will not be able to use the search functionality in this case.

I think the search was a slightly different issue. Search doesn’t need HTML, but the category layout does.

The AMP plugin added/ changed the html to the search widget so that it used the AMP search html rather than the themes html, and that broke the submission.

Hope that helps to clarify things

    Ben
