Is it possible to use one image in the header with a different image in the “About” section of the sidebar? I want to change my header image without changing the sidebar one.

The blog I need help with is joyfulponderer.wordpress.com.

    Hey @lifefountain,

It’s absolutely possible; however, this depends on two things:

    1. What’s the name of the widget that you’re using to display your image in the sidebar?
    2. Are you comfortable using tools such as FTP or similar programs to upload images?

Let me know the answer to the above questions. If you’re not comfortable with FTP, no problem!

We have a few other options, but this will help us find a good starting point :).

    Hi Tom,

Gravatar Profile (which is fine for that one). But I would like to change the image in the HEADING to a different photo, and I don’t see how to do it. When I purchased the theme, my Gravatar image showed up in the heading automatically, but when I found I could add my profile and image to the sidebar, I wanted to change the image in the heading to a different one. Can the image in my heading ONLY be my Gravatar image? And–another question–can I make the photo in my sidebar smaller?

Now–about the FTP–I don’t think I’ve used it. If it’s something simple and secure (and you tell me how), I can try it. Or if there’s a better or simpler way, I can try that. I was hoping I could just upload a different photo from my computer to replace the Gravatar image in my heading.

    Hey @lifefountain,

Apologies for the major delay (I’ve been backlogged with email and issues for the last couple of weeks as we’ve added a new family member :).

Anyway, to answer your question, right now, the only way to customize the personal image in the header of the site is to use your Gravatar.

The latest version of theme allows you to disable this, but there’s no ability to actually customize the image that’s there without doing the following:

    • Uploading a new image via FTP.
    • Customizing the source code of the theme to retrieve the image you uploaded.

Normally, I believe this is outside the scope of what WordPress.com so I’m afraid there’s not much more to offer beyond either using the default gravatar or disabling the image.

I hope this helps clarify the question – if not, don’t hesitate to let me know!

I’m sorry I can’t do what I had in mind, but I do appreciate your looking into it for me.

    Take care,

    Debi,

This is something that I promise to take into consideration for a future release.

I’m trying to keep options as limited as possible (because I want the focus to be on making it as easy as possible for people to get to publishing, you know?), but there’s a balance to be struck between doing that and also offering features that people enjoy.

I’ve added this as a point of consideration. I can’t make any promises, but I will consider it!

Thank you! But I did discover something that worked for me using the About.Me widget for the sidebar. I can use whatever gravatar image I want to use (which will appear in the heading) but use something entirely different with the About.Me widget (which will appear in the side bar). So if anyone has this same question again, you can let them know about this option.

But I do have one question about resizing the image that appears in the sidebar. Whether I am using my gravator image or my about.me image, the photo shows up huge. I’d like to make it a bit smaller but can’t see a way to do it. Can it be done?

Oh–I just realized I had overlooked a VERY important part of your earlier message (that you had added a new family member)! So I send best wishes and many blessings to the new bundle of joy!

If you have the custom CSS upgrade, it’s totally possible – if that’s the case, let me know and I can let you know the CSS that you need to use to resize it so that it looks good.

So I send best wishes and many blessings to the new bundle of joy!

Thank you very much – it’s been a blast :).
