Background colour

    Hi, a follow up on the background colour question: the option of changing it from the post edit window is still not working. It seems that some other setting is overriding background colour – the colour changes in the right stripe portion of the window but not in the post area itself, where it should. When (in the Customize panel) I change the background colour myself for the whole blog – it changes under the posts but not over the right stripe area (which stays the colour I’ve selected in the post edit window).

    I’d appreciate a solution to this.

    Best,
    Szymek

    The blog I need help with is szymekdrobniak.wordpress.com.

    Hey Szymek 👋

    Happy to help! Can you please share a link to your blog using Oxford? The link in your original post isn’t for one of our themes, sorry.

    Thanks!

    hi, it’s http://scienceisartsite.wordpress.com. I have found a workaround for now – when I modify the background colour of a post (and it only changes the rightmost portion of the post) I also add a custom css to change the content area background colour to the same colour, linking it to a specific post by it’s id. but it’s not really very elegant.

    cheers,
    Szymek

    Got it, Szymek! Thanks.

    To add a background color to a post, please…

    1. In your dashboard, click ’WP Admin’. This should be the last link in your menu.
    2. Then, head to Posts > All Posts.
    3. Find the post you want to edit and click ’Edit’.
    4. At the very top of the Edit Post screen, click ’Screen Options’.
    5. Make sure ’Background Color’ is enabled.
    6. Scroll down and look in the sidebar for a color picker.
    7. Set your new background color and click ’Update’.

    That should do the trick! Let us know.

    Hi, this is exactly what I’m doing. It is not working as it should, similarly to some other issue reports posted on this forum in the past. As described above, setting the color as you suggest does change the color but ONLY of the rightmost portion of the window area. The area under the post text remains white, as if there was some opaque colour rectangle underneath it. I tried changing it to transparent using custom css but no success. That is having set the color in WP Admin panel, I also have to add custom css to change the colour under the #content-wprapper to match the one I’ve set in Post Edit.

    Is this explanation sufficient? :)

    Thanks Szymek! As it happens, that’s actually how Oxford is designed to look 😀

    You can check out our own demo site for comparision.

    If you’re seeing something different, would you please link to a screenshot? We’re more than happy to investigate any bugs.

    Hi! In this case the webpage of your theme is very misleading, as it shows a post with colour under the whole post and just it’s rightmost margin.

    Perhaps I haven’t described my problem enough: when I set the background colour it changes the colour of the right empty space, the margin to the right of the post text. The are under the post text remains white – was this really the intended effect?

    Have a look here: https://theme.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/product-feature-2.jpg The yellow spreads under the whole post, in my case it’s only the empty space adjacent to the photo and the second column of text.

    Cheers,
    Szymek

    Hmm. That sure does sound like something odd is going on, Szymek. Sorry!

    Can you please share a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

    Thanks so much! And sorry this isn’t as easy fix and it first sounded.

    Hi! So attached are two screenshots, one (here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6s9sbyrx49l1o59/Zrzut%20ekranu%202019-11-29%2019.02.35.png?dl=0) (whole post area blue) is what I have now and what involves setting the colour in wp-admin and using this short css snippet:

    .postid-379 #content-wrapper {
    background-color: #e0fff7 !important;
    }

    that specifically sets the same colour for a given post.

    The second screenshot (https://www.dropbox.com/s/bpavnnu251ne12j/Zrzut%20ekranu%202019-11-29%2019.02.56.png?dl=0) shows what happens if I don’t set the custom css code.

    cheers,
    szymek
