Any Way to Replicate the Gallery Through Custom CSS?
I am trying to accomplish something complex that I don’t think is possible, but I wanted to check just in case.
I really enjoy the Gallery set-up with the Avid theme, only I would like to use the Gallery template for two different reasons: one to show my Photography, and one to show my artwork For Sale. I am currently using the Gallery for my Photography. I don’t think it’s possible to use it for my artwork For Sale on a separate page.
If it’s not possible through Custom CSS, I would like to make my For Sale page and posts as close to the Gallery as possible. These are what I would like to achieve. Again, I don’t think any of this is possible from what I’ve seen so far:
– My For Sale posts are marked as “Images” to keep them from appearing in my Photography Gallery, but I would still like the gallery slider/slideshow embedded into the For Sale posts if possible, rather than the singular Featured Image. Can the image-post CSS be edited to include the gallery slider?
– I would like the “Category” dropdown from the Gallery on my For Sale page, if possible. My For Sale page is currently a “For Sale” Category, but if a Category dropdown could be created, the page could be an Image-Post page.
I know that this is very complex and possibly confusing, but I would appreciate any help. I’ve been messing with the CSS for days and haven’t found a way to replicate the Gallery.
The blog I need help with is noellembrooks.com.
I’ll try to answer your questions:
Can the image-post CSS be edited to include the gallery slider?
Unfortunately no. You’d need to edit your theme/template files in order to accomplish something like this and it is not possible on WordPress.com
For your second question, you cannot create two gallery pages because the theme unfortunately won’t sort your posts beyond the post type. The theme just wasn’t created with this special use in mind.
Sorry those aren’t the answers you were hoping for.
Thanks for the response, Melissa.
I figured it wasn’t possible, but I just wanted to double-check. I love the WordPress engine, but it can be tricky to deal with its limitations.
Even if you were using the theme on a self-hosted site, both those tasks would require significant custom development. Sorry we can’t be more helpful in this instance. :\
