Adjusting content excerpt length; also problem with the featured picture

I was wondering if there was any way to adjust the length of the post excerpts that are shown on my home page? (I don’t want the full posts on there, nor do I want just a few sentences, but rather somewhere in between). Also I think there’s a way to include a “Read More” link at the end of the excerpt, and I was wondering if you could help me with that.

Lastly, I’ve included the featured images in a large size right before each post, and some of them are overlapping with the little box that has the date of the post in the upper left hand corner. For instance: http://lifeho.wordpress.com/2012/10/31/on-electrolytes-and-unhappiness/

    Thanks for your help!

The blog I need help with is: lifeho.wordpress.com

And a follow up to that – is there a way to customize the size of the featured image shown on the home page before the excerpt?

You can change hte settings to full posts and insert the <!–more–> tag where you want the posts to cut off. That works in any WordPress theme.

The featured image size is not adjustable. It works best if you have images that are the same size or larger than the ones on the demo.
