Add Copyright To Left Side of Black Footer Line

    I’m working on setting up my blog. It’s not visible to the public since it’s not set up yet. However, I’d like to know how to put a brief copyright notice on the same line as the “Blog at WordPress.com. The Standard Theme.”

    Thanks very much.

    Hi there!

    You can use CSS to add your own credit to the left of the WordPress.com one. To add it, go to Appearance > CSS and paste in the following code:

    #sub-floor #credit a:first-child:before{
    	content: "© Copyright 2016. ";
    }

    If you’d also like to adjust the color/size of all of the credits there, this CSS can do that:

    #sub-floor #credit,#sub-floor #credit a {
    	color: #c0c0c0;
    	font-size: 16px;
    }

    Hope that helps. Happy blogging! :)

    Thanks so much, Sarah.

    One more question. Is there a way to left justify just that copyright text (leaving the WordPress stuff where it is now)?

    Have a wonderful day. I appreciate the help.

    Here’s an example of a blog that has a similar format to what I want:

    Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for showing an example!

    On the site you shared, they have their site set to “infinite scroll” which means more posts load each time you reach the bottom of the page to keep extending the page again and again. (Rather than clicking an “older posts” button and going to the next page of posts.)

    The footer you’re seeing on their site is due to infinite scroll being turned on. When it’s on, the text that displays on the left side of their footer is loaded automatically using the Site Title that has been set in Customize > Site Title.

    You could do the same thing, however you wouldn’t want to include all of your current credit text in your Site Title, so that would reduce what you can display there down to the name of your site.

    If you’d like to try out their setup, go here and check the “scroll infinitely” box then save: https://writesomethingyoulove.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php. (Although it won’t work exactly the same as theirs until you have more posts, since there aren’t enough to scroll/load more yet.)

    Alternatively, if you want another way to break up the text (and be able to include all of the credit text you have there right now), you could make your credits into two lines using this CSS:

    #sub-floor #credit a:first-child:before {
    	content: "© 2016 J.M. Waldron. All Rights Reserved. ";
    	display: block;
    }

    That’s the same CSS as before, except I added the display: block; line. That will separate them into two lines so your credit would be above the default ones.

    Hope one of those options works for you! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

    I wasn’t interested in infinite scroll, just left-justifying the copyright text online.

    I got it to work adding the following code:

    display: inline-block;
    float: left;

    Thanks bunches for the help.

    Great! Glad you got it where you wanted. :)

    It’s fun playing with this stuff.

    Have a good one, and thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

    It is! And you’re welcome. :)
